I finally got around to going through the photos of this piece and putting them together! This was one of the last pieces I did in ceramics class, and my favorite of any sculptural work I've ever done.

This piece is essentially about the cycle of life, but also relates to my work with fairy tales. I used dead plants and flowers as an integral part of the piece, supporting and adding to the beauty of the work even though their time has passed. The deer is the "animal" part of this cycle; he eats the plants that will eventually feed off his remains, which will create food for his young. The deer and the dried daisies ( a little hard to see, but I have a detail shot of it up there) are symbols from Hansel and Grethel, where Hansel is turned into a deer and Grethel turns herself into a daisy. The story and the ones related to it have themes relating to life and death, the cycle of life, and transformation as a part of that cycle, something I was really interested in when working on this piece, but I was also trying to depart from strict fairy tale reference and into using imagery developed from what I learned and found important.

TL;DR I like deer and fairy tales and the cycle of life and making stuff so yeah.

Ceramic, glaze and various dried plants, like 16 hours?

and yes, moving this thing was a pain in the butt lol. Several times I would find the plants half-broken if I left it in the class room too long! My teacher ended up keeping it btw, I wish him luck in keeping it intact lol.

EDIT: Thanks for the DD ^Talty!!!!!!!! <3<3<3
